Cardiff is historically known for its docklands area and I’m very proud that Cardiff has welcomed people from all over the world making it a multi-cultural and diverse capital city. In turn, we have an amazing variety of cuisines from Bangladeshi restaurants, Greek food trucks and Spanish tapas bars.

There is one Spanish tapas restaurant Cardiff can boast as the best: Curado Cardiff. I loved this place so much that I decided to write about it to encourage others looking for the best tapas Cardiff has to offer!

About Curado Cardiff Tapas

Curado is a Spanish restaurant and bar with a built-in deli shop who proudly serve Basque-style bar and eating culture to the people and visitors of Cardiff.

As far as Cardiff tapas restaurants go, this is as good as it gets. They import their produce direct from Spain including the wine, ingredients and deli items. The business is family-run and when visiting you’ll hear Spanish being spoken by not only the staff but the customers because a lot of Spaniards come here as they know it’s the real deal!

This is the tapas Cardiff city centre will be known for because it radiates authenticity, exudes a warm atmosphere, quenches the thirst of wine-lovers and puts a smile on every foodie’s face!

Curado have a fantastic sister place called Ultra Comida in West Wales which is one of the best restaurants in Narberth.

Fun fact: Curado translates to ‘cured’ in Spanish giving a simple but effective name of the brand.

Curado Cardiff Menu: Explained

There are 4 menus. First up is the drinks menu and there are SO many wines to choose from. I’m by no means a wine expert, like I genuinely only know the colours, but I do know that if you like wine, you’re in for a treat. There’s also the vermouth bar upstairs so knock yourself out. The sangria is lovely and comes out in separate glasses (not in a jug). There are also draught and bottle premium beers from Spain.

Secondly is the pintxos menu which contains all the ‘bar food’ at £4 an item but if you’re sharing you can cut into portions. The pintxos is a specific type of tapas found in the Basque area of Spain and you can find bite-sized bar food of all kinds from veggie and fish to meet and tomato bread.

The next menu is the specials menu so these vary. When I visited the specials menu included the Baked Truffle, Calamari. It comes as a white piece of paper clipped to the pintxos menu.

Lastly is the main Curado Bar Cardiff menu divided into 5 boxes: charcuterie, vegetables, meat, jamon, fish.

In the centre of the menu is the charcuterie box where you can pick either 4 or 8 options at a set price which come on a cheese board in gorgeous presentation with accompaniments like quince, fig & almond wheel, banderillas, crackers and nuts. This board alone is enough for me to go back in a heartbeat. So good!

Within the specific boxes you’ll find tapas staples like Patatas Bravas, Manchego and Curado Cheese and Giant Prawns but also lesser-known dishes like Chorizo Paste, Flour-Dusted Boquerones and Pig Cheeks in Cider.

I recommend spreading your choices across the menu so you have a couple of fish, a few meat options, a dollop or so of cheese and sprinkle some veggie items on the table for balance!

Example Order In Curado Restaurant Cardiff

Usually when I go for tapas, we order two dishes each, except for when I’m with one friend and we order lots of dishes. We’ve even been told by a waiter that we’ve ordered enough and another waiter that ‘no way will you finish that’. Lol, watch us.

As an example for what to order at Curado, my mum, aunty and I went for lunch and we ordered seven dishes which was enough to fill us but not too much that we felt overly done. Here’s what we had:

Another time I’ve been, I ordered oven-baked Valencian Goat’s Cheese Salad, Baked Truffle and Fried Potatoes with Jamon Iberico and a Fried Egg on top.

My top recommendations are the Garlic Mushrooms, Patatas Bravas, Giant Prawns, Spreadable Chorizo, Croquettes, Chorizo Balls in Cider and Calamari.

The Deli

As you enter Cardiff Curado, to the left is where you can shop all the incredible ingredients you just tasted. Open to the public, they have oils, meats, cheeses, wines, fish and snacks for sale. You could spend hours reading the labels, names and stories on these products! While here you’ll see the leg where they slice the most thin, tastiest and salty Jamon Iberico for the restaurant. Now look up!

They have staff here making the charcuterie boards you can order with the accompaniments in Spanish-style bowls and a fridge with the pintos items/quiches ready to go out.

In conclusion, there isn’t a bad molecule of food in Curado. Whatever you order will be good because it really is the best Cardiff tapas restaurant! I will be visiting here as long as it is around, which I hope is a long time.
