Goodsheds Barry Street Food | What Can £30 Get You at Goodsheds? South Wales

Goodsheds is Barry’s brand new baby, the urban high street packed with street food as in this post, locally-grown, global shops like Spectrum, chefs like James Sommerin opening restaurants and unique rooftop bars. I was unable to get a table until Mid-October and thankfully I did as two days later began Wales’ second lockdown!

Of course with the hype surrounding the latest go-to in South Wales and after having a blast doing my other £30 street food challenges, I couldn’t wait to get to the Goodsheds development.

Read on for everything I got for £30 at Goodsheds Barry and my review. Spoiler: I LOVED the food!

My Street Food Challenge – Right Up My Street

I love street food and it’s an experience I have everywhere I travel and I love the doing as much as the eating. You meet new people, you hear from locals, actually eat on a table with locals, learn about the food you’re eating and of course, have delicious street food.

Many times when street food markets are advertised, you rarely get an idea about what it will cost so I came up with the challenge in Melbourne and decided to do it at street food markets/courts/festivals I’m attending.

Craft Republic – Pub Near Barry Goodsheds

Before getting an actual spot at Goodsheds yard, I visited Craft Republic, the funky new bar next door to Goodsheds and so close I actually had to walk past the Goodsheds seating area. I love the modernity Craft Republic has brought to Barry with 14 craft beers, and when it’s run out, it’s forever gone being replaced with a new beer as well as the original Barry Island Gin on offer. It’s a world away from the regular ‘alf a cider and black and pint of Stella. I’ve visited thrice.

Before my street food challenge, I have tried Bab Haus Tacos from Goodsheds. I managed to get this because I had a table at the neighbouring pub, Craft Republic. When you have a table at Craft Republic, you can order takeaway from Goodsheds vendors via Yoello, pick it up outside and then bring it inside the pub to enjoy.

The CR staff are so friendly, adhere to strict covid measures, have pretty toilets and running around is an adorable Labrador who loves people!

I have also spent a late afternoon at Barry’s first rooftop bar, Academy 297 found at the penthouse of Goodsheds which I loved and tried half the cocktail menu. No, really.

How to Get to Goodsheds in Barry

Goodsheds is a large black building of shipping containers located at Barry Waterfront just a few minutes drive from Barry High Street, Barry Island and Barry Town Centre.

The nearest train station is Barry Train Station and after you leave the station like Stacey does on Gavin & Stacey, turn right and keep walking down Broad Street until you get to the tunnel next to Cocoa Cubanas nightclub. Walk under the tunnel, turn left and the entire black building in front of you is Goodsheds.

Walk to the end of the street and you’ll see either a queue or door-people at the entrance to Goodsheds.

There’s ample free parking outside Goodsheds if you end up drinking in Craft Republic all night.

Address: Hood Road, Barry Vale of Glamorgan, CF62 5QU

Goodsheds Table Prices

You can visit Goodsheds street food by visiting their website and booking a table here. Prices vary depending on the size of the table but I got a table for 2 on the tracks (a high-seated bench) for £3.25.

Coronavirus Measures at Goodsheds Barry

Fair play, Goodsheds have strict measures in place to ensure your visit is safe. Here are a few measures:

  • One-way system for less contact
  • Masks worn at all times unless seated
  • All orders made through an app and brought to your table for you where you take the item from the tray of the wait-person
  • 2 hour visit times

The problem I have with this, however, is that you don’t get a look inside the units where the street food stalls are. It would be nice if it was made a bit more personal in my opinion. I appreciate this could have been the case had we not been in a pandemic. So hopefully when we return to normal one day, we can maybe watch things being made, smell the aromas and see the action!

Take Your Own Cutlery as an Extra Covid Measure

I took my own bamboo eco-friendly cutlery which I reuse when I eat out, travel or camping because it saves plastic and is a good self-measure for Coronavirus. Ask for no cutlery in your notes and take your own!

Note: You cannot order from multiple places in one transaction, they need to be separate.

Additionally, every time you order through Yoello, they charge you a small service fee (like 10p).

Street Food at Goodsheds Options

Goodsheds Barry food has loads of lush vendors, all local street food, small businesses with global cuisines and some from Barry Wales. I was in heaven just looking at the menu!

  • Mr Croquewich – Inspiration is French alps’ cheese and menu includes grilled cheese sandwiches and parmesan fried burgers.
  • Tokyo Nights – Inspiration is a Japan holiday and menu includes Japanese bar food away from overrused items like sushi and ramen.
  • Friends in Knead – Local produce used only and freshly baked each morning, the menu includes pastries, bread and doughnuts.
  • Grumpy’s Gelato – Same team as Friends in Knead and your option for dessert at Goodsheds.
  • Tukka Tuk – Inspiration is from Kerala in South India but menu items are a fusion of world cuisines embedded from chef’s life.
  • Bab Haus Mex – Mixed inspiration from Mexican cuisine in LA style. Every street food occasion needs a Mexican vendor.
  • Meat and Greek – Greek Cypriot traditional and authentic recipes, the team’s hometown is Barry so what better place to try Souvlaki!
  • Dusty Knuckle – Wood-fired NEAPOLITAN pizza with freshly-made dough everyday. Italian-inspired of course!

  3. Chicken and Pork Gyozas were everything you dream of with Japanese kewpie mayo drizzled over (my favourite from Tokyo Nights). – £6 for 5.
  4. 10p Service Charge

Tukka Tuk

One of my favourite cuisines in the world is Indian food and India is actually number one on my list of countries to explore so this was a real treat for a glimpse into Kerala, South India!

  1. Onion Bhaji was hands down, the best onion bhaji I’ve ever had in my life. You get 2 for £5 with onion, potato and spinach filling and mango chutney on the side.

  • 2 beers
  • Portion of chicken
  • 5 Gyozas
  • Portion of chicken skins
