9 Places to Visit After Lockdown

Here are the top places to visit after lockdown that I want to travel to. When you’re consumed by wanderlust and living in lockdown, travel fantasies are what keeps the travel dream alive.

In no particular order because my travel visions change all the time but some of my ideas I need to get out to the universe and when it’s all over, I may reach a few.

Mexico

Now and then I start imagining going to a place and next thing I know, it pops up everywhere I look. My biggest inspirations for wanting to travel Mexico after lockdown come from Where Goes Rose travel blog, Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico Cook Book and the TV show Race Across the World.

  • The places I’d head to would be Oaxaca, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Yucata peninsula and Chichén Itzá.
  • I want to learn Spanish.
  • I would eat Tacos, Tamales, Burritos, Seafood Tostado, Quesadillas and Carne Con Chilli.
  • Really, my travel dream is go through the entire Central America and South America continents but for the purpose of this post I’ll just write the top countries.

India

Specifically, the city of Amritsar which has been at the top of my travel bucket list for a while now. This city has exactly what I look for when travelling; history, kindness, unique shows, delicious food. I would go to the Golden temple, go to the huge kitchen where they serve free food to anyone and go to the India-Pakistan border and watch the daily ceremony.

Of course, I’d love to explore more of India for its cultures and for my most important reasoning – the food!

  • The places I’d head to would be Amritsar, Agra, Rishikesh, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Varanasi, Goa, Pushkar, Delhi, Chennai, Ranthambore National Park, Dharamshala, Darjeeling, Kolkata, Kerala and Pondicherry.

Australia

The first time round we lived and breathed Melbourne and we were saving to travel around Australia for 2 months… didn’t quite go as planned and we had to go home for lockdown.

Well, it’s only right that we return and travel even though it’s really expensive! Still, this is a places I dream of going after lockdown so here goes.

  • I’d start off in Sydney and spend just a few days there then hop on a flight to Tasmania (somewhere we were going to go in April)! Back on the mainland, I’d go up the East Coast and go to the major players; Byron Bay, Brisbane, Fraser Island, Great Barrier Reef, Magnetic Island, Whitsundays and Cairns. I’d go to Darwin and try to spot wild crocodiles. I’d love a Western Australia road trip too. Hey, why not throw an Adelaide Wine Tour in there too!

Indonesia

Can you see the theme here? Bali was a trip planned for September 2020 with our best friends coming out to meet us there for an epic 2 week holiday! 🙁

  • I will be in Bali one day and I’d hop over to the Gili Islands, explore Jakarta and see Lombok.

Argentina

A huge goal for me would be visiting Argentina on my South America travel tour!

  • Firstly, I’d go to the little village in Patagonia that still speaks Welsh. I just imagine it would be so surreal and heartwarming for me!
  • I’d obv enjoy a steak and red wine in somewhere like Mendoza.
  • The southern most city in the world: Ushuaia (if you’ve been to Ibiza then you’ll be able to pronounce this properly) 😉
  • Iguaza Falls.
  • Watch a street Tango in Buenos Aires.

Canada

Canada is a place that has always been in the plans to get a Working Holiday Visa here. It’s such a huge country but the top places I’d go after lockdown would be:

  • Calgary to visit family, Banff National Park, Toronto (the six ;)), Vancouver, Montreal, Victoria Island, Jasper, Niagara Falls, Lake Louise, Ottawa and Lake Ontario.
  • Try the famous Poutin I’ve heard my Canadian friends rave about!

Barcelona

I’ve lived 2 hours away from Barcelona and never visited yet it’s so high on my list! So after lockdown, I badly want to go to Barcelona and I’d love to try and work there too! Who knows?! Tapas every night and a city and beach in one!

Germany

Some of our best friends from Melbourne are from Germany and we have to see them after the lockdown! I want to try their potato dumplings, favourite German beer and visit the woodlands near their home!

Japan

Who wouldn’t want to visit Japan? I think their culture is so different to what I’m used to that it would be a welcoming sense shock!

The chaotic and futuristic Tokyo, all the ramen you could imagine, cherry blossoms, Geisha learning, Osaka, Kyoto and snow monkeys!
