Washington Square Park – First When Harry Met Sally Scene in New York

Our first glimpse of New York is after the When Harry Met Sally drive to New York and Sally drops Harry off at Washington Square Park and while we think they’ll be besties in the city, they don’t see each other until many years later.

The original When Harry Met Sally bookstore is on 2259 Broadway at 81st Street. It was used for the filming but is now closed. Other franchises can still be found in locations around the city.

Cafe Luxembourg

The When Harry Met Sally restaurant scene where the disastrous double date happens is in Cafe Luxembourg on the Upper West Side.

Harry takes his best friend to meet Sally and Sally takes her best friend to meet Harry. This does not go to plan and while the viewer is screaming at the TV, Harry and Sally are still not together.

The famous When Harry Met Sally Pecan Pie scene happens in The Met museum, specifically at the Temple of Dendur. Harry does a ‘bit’ and makes Sally laugh and is one of the most recognised places from the movie.

The Plant Shed

The Plant Shed is a tree store used for two scenes of When Harry Met Sally. The first when Harry helps Sally buy a Christmas Tree and the second when Sally buys one, and drags to her place, alone.

Katz’s Delicatessen

Katz’s Deli is a New York institution but is almost synonymous with this movie. You’ll often see Katz Deli New York When Harry Met Sally in the same sentence as film buffs flock here, as do anyone who appreciates a real New York deli!

The When Harry Met Sally deli NYC is where my favourite scene is filmed (basically Sally makes the revelation to Harry that women fake it and she re-enacts it. It’s epic)!

We see Sally at Harry’s apartment and it’s a large space with not much furniture in it as opposed to other sets in the movie. Harry uses it to read the last page of novels before the first page.

Jess and Marie move in together and their apartment is featured in many scenes including the move-in episode and the Pictionary scene.
