What’s Somebody Feed Phil?

Somebody Feed Phil poster for Netflix series

If you’ve found this blog then you likely know the show, the man and the concept and are looking to try the same scrumptious food that was featured on Netflix.

If you’re here for a fun read then all you need to know is Somebody Feed Phil is a travel show that follows Everybody Loves Raymond creator, Philip Rosenthal, as he tastes incredible food around the globe.

Oh, and Somebody Feed Phil theme song is SO catchy!

Two of my favourite Armchair Travel Activities are binging travel shows and writing about literary travel so when I went to Montreal for a weekend I was definitely going to find all the Somebody Feed Phil filming locations and famous restaurants Montreal has to offer.

Netflix Somebody Feed Phil episodes include Marrakesh, Chicago, London and Seoul during season 3 of Somebody Feed Phil but he ended the trip in the French-Canadian city of Montreal where he ate good. And so did I!

Every Filming Location in Somebody Feed Phil Montreal

There are 12 main places that Phil visits in Montreal. Given the show’s name, the places are predominantly based around food (so Everybody Feed Phil) but some of them are just cool spots that he gets filmed in and seemed like a great route to follow. So here’s the Montreal Somebody Feed Phil restaurants, locations and where they are!

1) La Boite Aux Huitres – Jean Talon Market

Address: 7070 Henri Julien Ave, Montreal, Quebec H2S 3S3, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Oysters

Phil begins the show by hitting up a market that claims to sell the largest oysters in North America. So they’re definitely the best oysters in Montreal. Jean Talon market is a widely-popular, public market in the Little Italy neighbourhood of sMontreal selling lots of produce as well as seafood like meats, cheeses, veggies and baked treats!

‘Everybody’s happy when they’re eating oysters’

2) St Viateur

Montreal Bagel in Montreal. Filming location found in Montreal Canada

Address: 263 Rue Saint-Viateur O, Montréal, QC H2V 1Y1, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Somebody Feed Phil Montreal Bagels!

This is the most popular place that locals go for their daily fix of Montreal bagels in Montreal. Located in the Mile End neighbourhood, this store is iconic in Montreal where they bake fresh bagels in the Montreal style for locals and tourists.

I actually visited another Montreal bagel-ry called Fairmount in Mile End which was busy, cheap and the wood-fire oven was pumping!

I recommend St Viateur though for the Somebody Feed Phil Montreal bagel he tries with the owner, Joe!

‘New York Bagel is one finger, and a Montreal Bagel looks like four fingers’

3) Ma Poule Mouille

Address: 969 Rachel St E, Montreal, QC H2J 2J2, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Portuguese Chicken & Poutine

Montreal doesn’t do Nandos, they got the real deal. Ma Poule Mouille (translating to My Wet Chicken) is THE best place for Portuguese chicken and there is always a line-up out the door, the staff work like machines and the chicken is spinning on the rack all day long.

You can smell it outside, you see the bags overflowing the bins and you can feel the warmth that radiates from every lucky soul who eats this precious meal.

I queued for one hour to get in here and I’d queue another hour, and another, and another to get this chicken again!

‘A real restaurant critic is somebody who likes everything that’s delicious’

4) Poissonnerie La Mer

Address: 1840 Bd René-Lévesque East, Montréal, QC H2K 4P1, Canada

Phil smells the inside of a salmon that smells like watermelon!

This is a shopping trip. I was in Montreal to eat, not to cook, so I skipped this one. But if I move to Montreal, I’ll happily be La Mer’s catch of the day.

‘Holy Moly. What’s that?’

5) Park

Address: 378 Victoria Ave, Westmount, Quebec H3Z 2N4, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Sushi

Antonio, the guy who took Phil to the fish market, takes him to his Japanese fusion restaurant, Park. Antonio has lived such a multi-cultured and diverse life and it shines through his food.

‘I like everything’

6) Agrikol Montreal

Address: 1844 R. Atateken, Montréal, QC H2L 3L6, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Griot

Next, he moves onto Little Haiti and visits Agrikol, a Haitian restaurant Montreal. Montreal has a Haitian population of around 130 thousand people. So you know the food is on point!

Sadly, the restaurant that Phil visited is permanently closed but you can still go to the neighbourhood and find delicious Haitian food Montreal has in store.

‘I think culture and countries and cities are better when there’s a huge diverse population’

7) Lachine Canal

Phil rides a Swan boat along the canal. Visiting the canal is a must (the Swan boat is optional).

8) Montreal Plaza

Address: 6230 Rue St-Hubert, Montréal, QC H2S 2M2, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Oysters on Toy Dinosaurs, Arctic Char, Popcorn Powder, Dessert (that looks like a wedding hat)

Fine dining and me don’t go. It’s rare, it’s strange but it can be great. Montreal wasn’t one of those times. I had far too many places and foods to eat to blow my loonies here.

If you and fine dining are more on par, then listen to Phil for a ‘seriously delicious’ meal.

9) Olive et Gourmando

Address: 351 Rue Saint-Paul O, Montréal, QC H2Y 2A7, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Cubano Sandwich

One of the most famous Montreal restaurants for breakfast is Olive et Gourmando. Phil walks in, makes friends, asks for a Cubano Sandwich for breakfast and raves about it.

‘They’re very famous for this sandwich’

10) Schwartz Deli

Address: 3895 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montréal, QC H2W 1X9, Canada

What Feeds Phil: Deli Sandwich

Famous! Unreal! Delicious!

So good, I went here twice! And I met Frank who Phil sits with to eat a deli sandwich. Frank just says ‘two’ with no explanation needed for the order.

This is the Celine Dion restaurant Montreal. Why? Celine Dion part owns this deli so look out for her 😉

‘Schwartz’s is a landmark’

11) Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth

Landscape view of the city of Montreal Canada at sunset

Address: 900 Boulevard René-Lévesque O, Montréal, QC H3B 4A5, Canada

This is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono did a bed-in for 8 days.

Staying at The Fairmont is a real treat as it’s a major, luxurious brand of hotels in Canada! The suite they took over was 1742.

‘Give peace a chance’

12) Au Pied de Cochon / Cabane a Sucre

Address: 536 Duluth Est, Montreal, QC, H2L 1A9

What Feeds Phil: Cavier, Duck Heart Tartare, Bao, Micro Octopus, Meat Pie including calf brain and foie gras and Tripe Stew.

Phil had the connections to head to the headquarters of Au Pied de Cochon outside Montreal to a place called the sugar shack.

Note: You must book your reservation online or through a dedicated tour (as the one above).

Luckily in the centre of Montreal, you can check out the OG Au Pied de Cochon, a Montreal staple in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood for iconic and hearty Quebecois dishes like foie gras poutine.

‘This is like out of Deliverance or something’
