About Schitt’s Creek
Schitt’s Creek is a TV series created by father and son Eugene and Dan Levy, who happen to star as the on-screen father and son too, and aired 6 seasons between 20 and 20. It won 9 Emmys, 2 Golden Globes and dozens more awards, and is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen.
Schitts Creek is a show about the wealthy and privileged Rose family (mum Moira, dad Johnny, son David and daughter Alexis) who, in the very first scenes, lose everything except for one town/motel that, bought for David as a joke, the government decided wasn’t worth taking.
The Roses move from their mansion to said, roadside motel located in underwhelming Schitts Creek, found in an unknown Canadian location where they have to adapt and live with the towns-people. What the show turns into is something to witness, laugh at, cry with, cherish and always re-watch.
Okay so what’s with this unknown Canadian location?
Where is Schitts Creek Filmed?
Schitts Creek filming locations are all in towns and spots in the Ontario province of Canada and all within an hour’s drive of Toronto. The majority of them use one small, country town for filming but there are a few sprinkles of random locations in other places too.
Studios were used for a lot of the interior scenes but for the exteriors and real-life locations, I’ve listed them all for you to visit on this epic self-guided tour of Schitt’s Creek filming locations.
It is never specified where Schitt’s Creek is meant to be but it is definitely in Canada especially from all the references used throughout the show, it’s easy to distinguish the phrases and humour from its neighbour.
Not only are the writers Canadian but the entire cast are Canadian and the entire show was filmed in Canada. Which brings us nicely to my latest filming location post.

Schitt’s Creek Filming Location in Toronto
1) Pinewood Studios – Interior Shots
Most of the interior shots that you see throughout the show were shot in Pinewood Studios in none other than ‘Hollwood North’ aka Toronto!
These studios are a good place to visit if you love filming sets but there won’t be anything that is specifically Schitts Creek related there anymore. Still, you might see some filming or celebs about.

2) Elmbridge Manor (Graydon Hall Manor)
This is the sky-high priced wedding venue that David & Patrick view during their engagement and meet Clive the manager who says it will be available one month from today.
They almost got hitched here for the Schitts Creek finale (cry)…but it was moved to Schitt’s Creek town hall and we see Moira’s ICONIC outfit!
This is an easy Schitt’s Creek filming location to get to because it’s found in the city of Toronto.

3) The Schitts Creek Mansion
The very first scene of the show is filmed at a Toronto mansion known as ‘La Belle Maison’ and was the Rose family home when they were rich. This place is absolutely incredible and extremely contrasting to the motel they have to move to.
The mansion has been featured in publications including this article about it being up for sale for $21 million dollars!

Welcome to Goodwood, the real life Schitt’s Creek town!
How to Get to Goodwood (The Schitt’s Creek Town)
Goodwood is located 64km East of Toronto but getting to Goodwood by bus will take about 2 hours because there’s lots of stops along the way.
- Head to Union Station Bus Terminal in Toronto and purchase a day pass ticket ($26) for bus 71 toward Uxbridge.
- There is only one bus per day and this is at 7.43am and will get you to Goodwood about 1 hour 45 minutes later.
- Keep an ear out as you’ll want to depart the bus at Durham Highway 47. Goodwood Ave.
- On the way back, research bus times as there’s not many (I got the 10.47am one), use the bus stop on the other side of the street and get the 70D to Mount Joy.
- Get off the bus and head to the train station (it drops you right outside) and board the train back to Union Station in Toronto.
The above is why I’d say that travelling by car is definitely the easiest option which will take only 1/1.5 hours when not stopping at over 25 bus stops. Just put Annina’s Bakery in the Sat Nav and all the locations are within 30 seconds walk of the bakery.
Okay now we have five of the best filming locations Schitts Creek has. Note: they are all private property so we must be respectful.
4) Cafe Tropical Schitt’s Creek
First up as you are walking on the Main Street of the Schitt’s Creek town of Goodwood is the black building with large windows that was used as Cafe Tropical where Twyla serves her famous smoothies, Moira and Johnny socialise, Alexis gets free water and everyone wants the full combo.
Cafe Tropical to Schitt’s Creek is the Central Perk to Friends, the MacLaren’s Pub to How I Met Your Mother and the Moe’s Tavern to The Simpsons.
5) Rose Apothecary (Goodwood Mercantile)
Across the road from the Schitts Creek cafe is the store that was used for the Schitt’s Creek general store and then later the Rose Apothecary store in Schitt’s Creek owned by David and Patrick.
Many Schitt’s Creek filming location guides will direct you to Romni Goodwood but this has been sold and renamed to Goodwood Mercantile.
The street opposite this building is where Alexis and Mutt paint a fence for community service!

6) Bob’s Garage
Across the road once more and you’ll see the most obvious Schitts Creek location of Bob’s Garage which looks exactly the same minus the Bob’s Garage writing. The big blue building is a running business.
The garage has this hilariously, understated Schitts Creek sign on the wall:
This was the garage owned by Bob Currie who’ll fix anything at a hefty price and where Johnny got office space in Schitts Creek season 2.

7) Town Hall
When on the triangular intersection of the small town, if you turn onto Front Street with Bob’s Garage on your right and keep walking for a few metres, you’ll come to the train tracks directly next to the famous Schitt’s Creek Town Hall.
The Town Hall is featured in all Schitts Creek seasons. It’s where the town council meet, the Jazzagals rehearse, home to the Asbestos Fest, the Schitt’s Creek flea market and David & Patrick get married.

8) Roland’s House
Instead, if you turn onto Front Street with Bob’s Garage and Cafe on your left and keep walking for a few metres, you’ll come to the house that was used as Roland and Jocelyn Schitt’s home.
This is where the iconic cheese folding scene happened in the first season!

9) Annina’s Bakery
This is not a Schitts Creek filming spot but it is definitely linked to the show so when you visit, pop in for a delicious butter tart and coffee. Annina’s Bakery catered for the entire Schitts Creek cast and crew during filming.
It also has two signed photographs above its door, one from Eugene Levy and one from the Rose family. I guess this is the REAL Cafe Tropical.

Another potential location is Schitts Creek Mutt’s barn where one of the most heartfelt episodes happens at Mutt’s soiree and the family and Schitt Creekers dance together. I couldn’t find the barn. Let me know if you know!
Schitts Creek Locations Near Toronto (In Ontario)
These are some of the spots where Schitts Creek was filmed outside the city of Toronto and outside the town of Goodwood. Most were used for just one or two episodes but the famous motel is included in this section!
10) The Wobbly Elm
Just 30 minutes away from Goodwood, the back of a woodshop/garage was used as the front location for the dive bar, The Wobbly Elm, just outside the town that the locals occasionally visit to satisfy their needs.

11) Schitt’s Creek Motel Location / Hockley Valley Motel
The Rosebud Motel was a real-life motel in Hockley, Ontario for its exterior shots throughout the show.
The motel is currently closed as it’s another Schitts Creek filming location up for sale. Although you can’t go in, you can park outside and re-enact those classic scenes from the very first episode to the last.
In Schitts Creek last season, Johnny expanded Rosebud Motel Group that started with this very one.
To find the Schitts Creek motel location by car, put L9W 6N4 in your sat nav to find the Hockley Valley Motel. By bus, use busbud to find the best way to get to Orangeville from Toronto.

12) The Blouse Barn / Crock-a-doodle
The Blouse Barn is in Elmdale where David works in season 2 and the residents shop for upscale items.
Crock-a-doodle is a painting-pottery shop and is the place for Blouse Barn Schitts Creek location in Unionville, Markham.

13) Ted’s Vets / Thicketwood Veterinary Hospital
On your way to Goodwood from Toronto you will pass the town of Stouffville and on the main road you’ll see Thicketwood Veterinary Hospital on the left-hand side. This was the exact Schitt Creek filming location for Ted’s Veterinary Clinic.

14) Herb Ertlinger / Applewood Farm and Winery
Located near Stouffville, Applewood Winery is where the hilarious scene in Schitts Creek season 1 happens when Moira is hired to shoot a commercial for local Herb Ertlinger Winery and she gets inebriated on the wine so the winery becomes Herb Erflinger, Burt Herngeif, Irv Herb-blinger and so on.
This episode was filmed at Applewood Farm and Winery near Lake Scugog, about 95km from Toronto.

15) Treetop Trekking in Stouffville
For the opening episode of season 5, Alexis and Ted and David and Patrick go on an ‘adventure date’ and used the real-life Schitts Creek location in show in Stouffville.

16) Rattlensake Point in Milton
Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area in Milton, Ontario is the romantic, real-life schitts creek place where David and Patrick get engaged.
It’s only 45 minutes from Toronto city and is a great area for nature-lovers and of course, Schitt’s Creek lovers!

17) Monte Carlo Inn
This is the hotel that Stevie takes David to cheer him up and have a spa retreat. They used the Monte Carlo Inn for filming the Schitts Creek season 4 episode using a hotel room and the hotel’s restaurant.
Vaughan is a suburb 50 minutes from downtown Toronto so for where is Schitts Creek filmed in Canada, Vaughan is another place.

18) Capitol Theatre
For the Schitts Creek season 5 finale, Stevie and Patrick perform the Schitts Creek cabaret and the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope is the backdrop.
This is another Schitt Creek filming location that was only used for one episode but still worthy of adding if you want to visit them all!

19) Sherwood Motel
During Schitts Creek season 6, the gang explore the expansion of the Rosebud motel business and Sherwood Motel in Brantford was used for four episodes in the final season.

My favourite Schitt’s Creek location was the Goodwood main road – so many iconic moments in this intersection.
