About Sex and the City
Sex and the City was a hit HBO series based on the newspaper column and book by Candace Bushnell. The show ran for 6 seasons between 1998 and 2004 and then had two feature films: Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. Lastly there was a spin-off series in 2021 called And Just Like That.
It follows Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte as they live in New York City navigating friendship, love, fashion and the city. All fans were desperate to know where did Carrie Bradshaw live and visiting New York, I certainly made it my mission to find it!

The Carrie Bradshaw Apartment NYC Location

Sex and the City is a show about love. One thing I admire about Carrie is how deeply she loves. And not just the romantic love; the love for her friends, her job, shoes, New York City and definitely for her apartment.
Carrie tells someone her address is 245 E. 73rd Street and it is believed that she lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (the size of the inside of Carrie Bradshaws apartment certainly would make us think this).
So while 245 E. 73rd Street is the fictional address of Carrie apartment NYC, it is NOT the Carrie Bradshaw apartment that we see on our screens and the one we see is not on the Upper East Side.
Well, where is Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment then?
The most recognisable building of the entire SATC universe is located in Greenwich Village or West Village or just ‘The Village’.
Carrie Bradshaw apartment address: 66 Perry St, New York, NY 10014, USA
‘A lot of s**t went down in this place, attention must be paid’
How to Get to Carrie Bradshaw New York Apartment

The Carrie Bradshaw NYC apartment is located on Perry Street in West Village in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
Did you know that they actually used two apartments for Carrie Bradshaw apartment in NYC and they both happened to be next door to one another on Perry Street. Number 64 was used for seasons 1-3 and number 66 for seasons 4-6.
To get to Carrie Bradshaw apartment Perry Street:
- The closest subway station is 14 Street on 7th Avenue and as you keep walking you’ll see the right turning for Perry Street
- From Washington Square Park, walk down West Washington Place, turn right on West 4th Street and left for Perry Street
- The closest bus stop is 7 Av South/Waverly Place
Carrie Bradshaws apartment address: 66 Perry St, New York, NY 10014, USA
‘Beauty is fleeting, but a rent-controlled apartment overlooking the park is forever’
Respectful Reminder: The Carrie Bradshaw apartment Perry St building owner, rightfully, put a chain to stop people going on the steps or knocking the door/window and imposing on peoples’ home. It seems that there will soon be a gate added to the brownstone stop people trespassing on the famous stoop.
More Home Locations Sex and the City
So we’ve covered the Carrie Bradshaw home, what about the other Sex and the City NYC locations they used for the characters’ homes? Read on!
Where Charlotte Lived
Charlotte York lived on the Upper East Side in her own apartment. She then moved to 930 Park Avenue through her first marriage to Trey, kept it during their divorce and remained their for her forever marriage to Harry and their family.
The exterior shots used for Charlotte’s house was 275 Central Park West.
Where Miranda Lived
Miranda Hobbes lives on 78th and Amsterdam on the Upper West Side of Manhattan thanks to her lawyer salary.
Later in the series, Miranda moves with Steve to Brooklyn and the show used the Prospect Heights neighbourhood for filming. but during the first Sex and the City movie, Miranda gets an apartment downtown.
Where Samantha Lived
Samantha Jones is my favourite character in the show and she lived on the Upper East Side before getting so many complaints from her neighbours, making her move to the Meatpacking District for the later half of the series.
The Meatpacking District in Manhattan can be seen for lots of Sex and the City filming locations like when the girls go on their many nights out, walking through the city or meeting for lunch/dinner.
Carrie and Big’s Apartment
Now where does Carrie Bradshaw live with Big? One of the Sex and the City movie locations was Carrie and Big’s apartment on 1010 Fifth Avenue (the Penthouse). This is where they filmed in the first film, Big builds Carrie her dream closet and they reunite here at the end of the movie as Carrie left her other love there (Manolo Blahniks).
Ultimately, they never spent a night together in the Penthouse but remained in the building just a few floors below.
‘Hello. I live here’
Carrie Bradshaw Apartment And Just Like That
In And Just Like That, although Carrie and Big remain in their luxury home after Big dies, the viewer expected to see a Carrie Bradshaw new apartment.
When Carrie decides to get a new place for Aidan and his children in S2, E9, Aidan mentions the location is in ‘Gramercy Park’. So in reality it’s not THAT far from Greenwich Village but in the SATC world, it’s a world away. Carrie seems to be certain and happy to move on.
‘I know how attached you are to that old neighbourhood’

But for us old-school SATC fans, no apartment will beat the brownstone stoop and it seems the same for Carrie who never gave it up until the second season of And Just Like That!
I love that TV shows blur the lines between reality and fiction (who would be able to have TWO places in NY? Carrie Bradshaw, that’s who).
Now you know how to find all the homes including the famous Carrie Bradshaw apt in NYC, read on for some other Sex and the City New York locations!
Iconic Sex and the City Locations in NYC
Magnolia Bakery

While you’re visiting, the Carrie Bradshaw apartment Greenwich Village location is on the same street as another place you’ll recognise: Magnolia Bakery. This is where Carrie and Miranda eat cupcakes on the bench outside and Carrie tells Miranda that she has a crush on a guy named Aidan.
There are branches all over the city but the original is on Bleecker Street just a minute walk from the Carrie Bradshaw flat.
Although only used in one scene (S3, E5), this is a MUST visit for any SATC fan especially if you’re looking for something sweet.
This bakery was also used in The Devil Wears Prada.
‘I’m officially crush-proof’

And while you’re here, check out SJP Collection next door which is a shoe store owned by Sarah Jessica Parker where I’m sure you’ll find some of Carrie Bradshaw favourite shoes.
Central Park

Central Park is as intrinsic to New York City as the skyscrapers so any TV show filmed in NYC will undoubtedly feature the park in its scenes.
The Loeb Boathouse is probably the most notable Sex and the City film locations as this is where Carrie dodges a kiss from Big and they both end up falling in the lake (S3, E18).
The Ladies Pavilion is a Victorian bandstand where Carrie and Miranda meet for lunch in the first movie.
There’s also Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir where Charlotte enjoys running and walking her dog.
‘Don’t let him kiss you’
Louis K. Meisel Gallery
Louis K Meisel is a real art galley in Soho (focusing on photo realism) that was used early in the series for Charlotte’s workplace in the first few seasons.

The Park Plaza

A prominent building of New York City is the Park Plaza hotel or ‘The Plaza’. It’s a staple venue for the lives of New Yorkers but a sought-after place for film fanatics. It has been used for countless films like North by Northwest, Sleepless in Seattle, Bride Wars, Home Alone II: Lost in New York, The Great Gatsby and The Way We Were.
TV shows also use the Plaza for filming like in Friends, Gossip Girl and Sex and the City.
One of the most memorable SATC scenes was filmed outside The Plaza as a nod to the scene from The Way We Were (S2, E18).
Big and Natasha’s engagement party is being held at the hotel and as Carrie walks past she spots Big and they exchange a moment echoing Katie and Hubbell from The Way We Were.
‘Your girl is lovely’ ‘I don’t get it’ ‘And you never did’

New York Public Library
When it comes to Sex and the City locations New York landmarks are never far from our eyes. The New York Public Library took centre stage during the first movie as the venue for Carrie and Big’s wedding. Of course, we all know that didn’t end up happening and at the entrance and foyer we see Big jilting Carrie at the altar.
‘A New York public landmark that housed all the great love stories’
The Paris Theatre
Carrie visits another New York institution, The Paris Theatre, located in Midtown where they show independent and foreign movies (S5, E1). She says in New York there is ‘no end to the ways to fill your days’.
Carrie moves to the actual Paris in the final episodes of the series before Big goes to finally declare his love for her (theirs is a complicated love story).
‘The most amazing thing about living in a city like New York is that any night of the week you can go to Paris’

Jefferson Market Garden
We love the exciting moments in Sex and the City like weddings and Jefferson Market Garden in Greenwich Village is the location for Miranda and Steve’s wedding (S6, E14).
Petes Tavern on 18th Street is the pub where Miranda asks Steve to marry her earlier in the episode.
‘Forget about my special f* day and be normal’
Brooklyn Bridge

In the first film when Miranda and Steve break up, they choose Brooklyn Bridge as the spot they will both meet at a specific date and time if they want to continue their marriage and leave the past in the past. It’s a great scene.
‘On the Brooklyn Bridge. Halfway between our two places. Very logical, and yet poetic’
Onieals

Onieals is one of the lesser-known Sex and the City locations in New York as it was used as the bar owned by Steve and Aidan named Scout (named after Steve’s dog).
Carrie brings Aidan a Mulberry Plant as a present for Aidan because the bar is on Mulberry Street but this is fictional as Onieals is actually on 174 Grand Street.
Carrie and Aidan reunite on the bar’s opening night (S4, E5) and eventually get back together.
‘Now you want the cake?’ ‘I never not wanted it’
Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle is one of the most popular NYC locations Sex and the City used in Season 4 for the second break-up of Carrie and Aidan, but it’s not the end for these two as we find out in And Just Like That…
That’s a wrap on the best Sex and the City locations NYC!
