13 Best Coffee Shops, Bakeries and Tea Houses in Banff
Some are ideal for cosying up with a book, some are more for a pop in for a to-go beverage but all have one thing in common: they are the best answer for a cafe or coffee shop Banff has to give.
Banff Coffee Shops
Whitebark Cafe
Considered by many to provide the best coffee in Banff, Whitebark have positioned themselves in high regard for the Banff locals. Serving coffee beans from North Vancouver and tea from Banff Tea Company, the products are sustainable and well-sourced.
They’ve also started to sell alcoholic beverages at their cafe located within Banff Aspen Lodge.
Whitebark offer daily niche pastries, gluten free and vegan products so there’s something for everyone.
Address: 401 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1A9, Canada
Evelyn’s Coffee World
Evelyn’s is the most famous Banff coffee shop, running since 1992, where locals take their laptops and tourists take their snapshots. Here you’ll find a variety of coffees, plethora of homemade food, its own merchandise for sale and its own coffee beans.
Address: Sundance Mall, 215 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1A4, Canada
Good Earth
This is my favourite Banff cafe. Starting in Calgary, Good Earth have made a chain of Alberta coffee shops and the Banff one is perched on the corner of Banff Ave and Elk Street.
They have a generous amount of seating within the cafe looking out to Banff Ave and the mountains. the coffee is served hot, quick and with fun, coffee art.
My first time here really set the precedent for coffee shops in Banff. The staff were so lovely and explained the loyalty programme, I sat and people-watched from the window and even took part in judging a pumpkin carving contest.
I got a delicious pumpkin spice latte for a decent price of around $6 and admired all the paninis, soups, pastries and maple-flavoured goods in the window for next time (ham and cheddar breakfast bake, I’m looking at you).
Being located opposite Banff High School, it’s the perfect coffee shop in Banff to grab a coffee before going on adventures because many of the Roam bus routes take off from Banff High School!
Address: 333 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1B1, Canada
Second Cup
Second Cup is one of the more popular Canadian coffee shops (not counting Tim Hortons of course) and can be found all over Alberta including Calgary and Red Deer. Banff’s branch is in Cascade Mall with an outdoor entrance from the side street of Banff Ave.
You can sign up to their loyalty programme, they promise sustainable and eco-friendly coffee with the best taste.
Address: 317 Banff Ave Suite M17, Banff, AB T1L 1A1, Canada
Peak Cafe Banff
This Vietnamese restaurant / cafe is an unassuming gem of Banff. It has very simple decor and modest outdoor signage but rich, incredible Vietnamese menus.
Breakfast is very popular at Peak Cafe as well as their bubble tea, smoothies and coffee. The authentic Vietnamese coffee here is second to none and won’t be found in any other Banff cafes. One cup of this and you’ll be set for any hike or activity you have planned for that day.
Address: 109 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1C9, Canada
Banff National Perk
I love the name of this cafe because it’s similar to Central Perk from Friends!!
Located inside Bear Street Mall with an entrance on Bear Street, Banff National Perk is a small, family-owned cafe serving hot food, pastries and coffee. Sit on one of the modest tables, admire the artwork and watch Banff pass you by.
Address: 220 Bear St, Banff, AB T1L 1A1

Downtown Sally
Downtown Sally is a fairly new cafe in Banff and has replaced the previous JK Bakery in Wolf & Bear Street Mall next to Lux Cinema. They have a humble indoor and outdoor space to enjoy your latte as well as delicious pastries.
Their sister spot is Sudden Sally which is the best place in Banff for a cronut. I can’t get over this cronut and I think about it often!
Address: 229 Bear St, Banff, AB T1W 1A9, Canada
Mountain Folk Coffee Co
The newest Banff coffee shop is located on Banff Avenue opposite McDonalds and serves all the hippy coffee your heart desires, fresh pressed juice, pastries and vegan brunch dishes like Acai Bowls!
Address: 117 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1C1
Bakeries in Banff
Wild Flour Bakery
Wild Flour Bakery is always full and my favourite place in town to try new blends and items. I recently had the jalapeno and cheddar muffin which, once warmed, was a delightful breakfast while sitting by the Bow River and something so unique to Wild Flour.
Walking in, they have many seats to the right looking out to the street, a huge billboard with all their stock and prices, transparent cabinets with their food for sale, a line with clear instructions on where to order, where to wait and where to pick up.
They have a few shelves selling merchandise, coffee beans and more but the gem is at the back where they have their own in-store bakery!
Little Wild is Wild Flour Bakery’s cafes in Banff found on Banff Ave and serving the freshest produce and best coffee for customers.
Address: 211 Bear St 101, Banff, AB T1L 1B8, Canada
The Uprising Bakery
This is the ultimate bakery to find your fresh, tasty bread! Expect a queue and ensure you join it. Uprising believe that bread is an experience and so they put this in their baking in their take on a European store. This is the closest bakery you’ll find to Europe in Banff especially since the head chef is from Czech Republic so expect a few treats from there.
They have a branch in Canmore too as well as being a supplier for IGA in Banff and Safeway in Canmore so lookout for the Uprising label in the supermarkets and on certain menus in town such as Sky Bistro at the Gondola.
Address: 202 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1B5, Canada
Tea Houses in Banff
Milk Tea at Banff
Found in the mall is a humble tea shop called Milk Tea at Banff serving the best bubble tea, tea espresso and slush in Banff.
You can build your own milk tea from the base to the flavours, toppings and temperature.
Address: Sundance Mall, 211-Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1B4, Canada
Banff Tea Co.
My favourite place for tea in Banff is absolutely Banff Tea Company. It has dozens of tea leaves on display which you can spend time sniffing, reading about and getting one to go if you want.
They also have the equipment for tea-making at home like the pots, strainers, books and tea cosies.
Be sure to check out the list of top 10 and the list of those made in Banff for local tastes and highly recommended brews. I recommend ‘Paper Umbrellas’ for the best tasting morning brew and ‘Knock Yourself Out’ for a night cap with its valerian root and relaxing energy.
Address: 208 Caribou St, Banff, AB, Canada
Jolene’s Tea House
Jolene’s is the cutest tea house you’ll ever see. It’s found on Bear Street in Banff which is a world away from Banff Ave in my opinion. The hut is actually one of the oldest buildings in Banff named Crag Cabin which was once a butchers and local newspaper shop!
On arrival you’ll find a modest, wooden hut with chairs draped in fluffy throws outside, information about the original hut and usually a sample tea for passer-bys.
The brand can be found in many businesses around Banff that solely use Jolene’s as their tea supplier such as Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen and next-door Wild Flour Bakery.
Address: 211A Bear St, Banff, AB T1L 1C9, Canada
Lake Agnes Tea House
Outside of Banff town, specifically Lake Louise, is where you can find one of the best Lake Louise coffee shops: Lake Agnes Tea House. And it’ll make you work to get there!
Following the Lake Agnes trailhead from Lake Louise, you’ll reach Agnes Tea House after around 3.5 km of hiking. Once there you can enjoy the incredible views and treat yourself after working hard for a few loose tea leaves in the Rockies.
Address: Lake Agnes, Lake Louise, AB T0L 1E0, Canada
